An Innovative Tubular Standing Support Incorporating PVC and FRP Composites: Laboratory Tests

The importance of developing innovative support structure for underground mines has drawn much attention with the depletion shallow resources. This paper presents a hybrid tubular standing consisting an exterior container made polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) while infill is coal rejects based backfill material. FRP jacket featured high strength-to-weight ratio attached on surface PVC tube large rupture strain to provide confinement infilled A series laboratory tests were conducted this FRP-PVC (FPTSS) different thickness. Meanwhile, sole confining material also prepared tested. Tests results showed that FPTSS specimen exhibited typical hardening behaviour attributed effective provided by combined container. It indicated enhancement either compressive strength or axial deformation ability closely related other comparative advantage obtained from research its ductile post-peak after jacket, indicating using in FPTSS. Except superior behaviour, cost effectiveness ease construction are attractive design aspect.
